U.S. Senator from Delaware, if elected, would be first transgender person elected to Congress

“Diversity is essential”
Speaking to Delaware Onlinethe leading candidate stated that “the diversity in government it is necessary, to ensure that we have a healthy democracy, but also to really deliver for the people.”
At the same time, he recognized “her uniqueness of the nominationher, “the uniqueness that my voice would bring to the halls of Congress,” as she says.
“But the bottom line is, I’m not running to be a transgender member of Congress. I’m coming down to be the member of Congress from Delaware who will focus on making progress in every issue that concerns the residents of every origin of Delaware”, he notes characteristically.
