Saudi Club Al-Ahly Signs Senegalese Goalkeeper Edouard Mendy from Chelsea

The Saudi club Al-Ahly announced, on Wednesday, its contract with Senegalese goalkeeper Edouard Mendy from English club Chelsea.

Al-Ahly described Mendy as “the best goalkeeper in the world.”

Al-Ahly published a video recording of the Senegalese goalkeeper, wearing a shirt that read 2026, revealing the three-year contract period.

Chelsea confirmed Mendy’s departure to Al-Ahly of Saudi Arabia in a “permanent” deal, after three seasons with the London club.

And he added that the “essential role” of Mendy (31 years) in “our march to achieve glory in the Champions League in 2021 will remain in the minds of Stamford Bridge.”

He wished him “good luck” with Al-Ahly.

Mendy played with French clubs Reims and Rennes, before moving to Chelsea in 2020.

With the English club, he won the European Champions League, the European Super Cup and the Club World Cup, and he also won the last African Cup of Nations with the Senegal national team.

This came after Fabrizio Romano, a journalist specializing in the transfer market, reported that Chelsea would receive between 16 and 17 million pounds sterling (about 22 million dollars) in exchange for giving up Mendy, while the player would annually receive 12 million dollars, in addition to incentives amounting to 3 million. dollar.

Romano added that Mendy’s contract extends until June 2026, pointing out that he had a “secret” medical examination in London on Monday.
