Introducing the Nokia G42 5G: A Self-Repairable Phone with 5G Support

Nokia introduced another phone, namely the first one with 5G support, which you can repair yourself at home. After the Nokia G22, the repair of which we tried ourselves, we got a higher build Nokie G42 5G. At first glance, the novelty fits into the current design concept of the Nokia brand, for which smartphones are produced under license by HMD Global.

The new device is equipped with a 6.56″ IPS LCD display with HD+ resolution and a 90Hz refresh rate. There is an 8MP selfie camera in the cut-out, and the entire front surface is protected by Gorilla Glass 3. On the back of the phone with IP52 resistance, there is a photo module with three cameras, interesting however, the main 50 Mpx sensor will be of interest to you.2 Mpx cameras for macro and bokeh are really limited in the phone.

The phone’s performance is ensured by the Snapdragon 480+ 5G chipset, which ensures connectivity to fifth-generation networks. The operating memory has a capacity of 6 GB, and you can expand it with 2 GB of virtual memory, which “takes a bite” of the 128 GB of storage. Biometric access is provided by a side fingerprint reader or facial recognition software. Android 13 is ready inside the phone, which will receive two major system updates, and it can also look forward to regular security updates for three years (from the date of launch). A pleasant bonus is the three-year phone warranty, i.e. not the usual two-year warranty.

Another easy-to-disassemble phone

The back of the phone is 65 percent made of recycled plastic, and under them is a 5,000mAh battery, which is supposed to last up to three days on a single charge. After 800 charging cycles, the battery will still have at least 80 percent of its original capacity. And if it does need to be replaced, you can do it yourself at home.

Nokia has again teamed up with iFixit, which will supply assembly instructions, spare parts and the necessary tools to easily replace a broken display, an old battery or a non-functional USB-C power connector. According to the manufacturer, the repair should also take several minutes this time. The phone will go on sale in purple, which is supposed to be the most important color this year, alternatively it will also be available in neutral black. The Czech representative office of the brand has not yet revealed the price and availability.
