New Delhi: Justice Rituraj Aswati, chairman of the commission, said that the Law Commission, which sought public opinion on the Uniform Civil Code, has been getting a very good response.
He said that till Tuesday, about 8.5 lakh comments have been received. On June 14, the Law Commission issued an order seeking comments from the public and religious organizations on the Uniform Civil Code. The commission has received so many comments in the two weeks since then.
Justice Rituraj Aswathi said that the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) is not a new issue, it has been proposed since 2016.
The Law Commission also stated that extensive consultations will be held with various organizations and others. The Law Commission has given public and religious organizations 30 days to submit their comments on the Uniform Civil Code. The Law Commission’s action came amid indications that the BJP is moving to introduce a single civil code bill in the next parliamentary session.
Meanwhile, there have been rumors that Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s statement in Madhya Pradesh is a precursor to the implementation of the Uniform Civil Code.
In Madhya Pradesh, where assembly elections are to be held in December, BJP Modi’s remarks were addressed to the workers. After the construction of the Ram Temple in Ayodhya, the ban on triple talaq, and the withdrawal of Article 370, which gives special status to Jammu and Kashmir, the next item on the BJP’s agenda is public personal law. The BJP has said that the bill will be introduced to implement this in the winter session of the Parliament which starts in the last week of July. Indication given by centers.
