MUMBAI: The police are of the opinion that the allegations leveled by social media influencer and Bhojpuri actress Sapna Gill against Indian cricketer Prithvi Shah are false. The police told the court that Sapna’s complaint that Prithvi Shah assaulted and molested her at a pub in Mumbai was ‘false and had no evidence’.
The investigating officer appeared before the magistrate and submitted the report. But Sapna’s lawyer Ali Kashif Khan said that the video of Prithvi Shah attacking Sapna is on her phone and can be submitted to the court. The lawyer also claimed to have CCTV footage from outside the pub.
The court adjourned the case after asking the police to produce the entire footage of the incident. Prithvi Shah and his friend were attacked in front of a luxury hotel in Mumbai in the early hours of February 15. The complaint of Prithvi Shah’s friend is that when he got into the vehicle and escaped, the assailants who were following him hit the vehicle at the signal. Sapna Gill was arrested by the Mumbai police the very next day.
After her release, Sapna filed a case in the Andheri Magistrate Court. A case was also filed against Prithvi Shah’s friend Surendra Yadav on Sapna’s complaint. Sapna’s complaint is that she was insulted and physically assaulted by the Indian cricketer and her friend in a public place. In the complaint, Sapna alleged that Prithvi Shah pushed her by holding her chest.
Sapna had demanded that sections 354, 509 and 324 of the IPC be charged against the cricketer for assault with a bat. Medical documents were also submitted to the court along with the complaint to prove the sexual assault. Sapna Gill has also approached the court demanding action against airport police station officials Satish Kavankar and Bhagwat Garande who did not take action despite Sapna’s complaint.
