Lost Mayan City Discovered in Mexican Jungle with Mysterious Pyramids and Grisly Burials

Archaeologists have found a lost Mayan city in the south of the Yucatan Peninsula in Mexico. This is reported ScienceAlert.

It was named “Okomtun” (“Stone Column”). To get to the city, scientists had to walk 60 kilometers through the jungle. Archaeologists learned about this place thanks to modern technology: they scanned the area using lidar, a technology for measuring distance, which uses the reflection of laser beams from the surface.

Various buildings were discovered in the city, including several pyramidal structures 15 meters high. They also found a site that may have been used for recreation or religious purposes.
