NATO is already drawing lessons from the war in Ukraine for its equipment: a new multi-launch system will be developed by both the Americans and the Germans. A European version of the HIMARS that is expected to offer significant improvements in the availability of this highly accurate long-range weapon, which has become known for its use against the Russian military.
Why is this important?
The war in Ukraine has highlighted a slew of new weapon systems and military equipment, both legacy Cold War-era and modern systems. This arouses the interest of two specific groups: modeling enthusiasts and, of course, the large arms industry.
In the news: German weapons group Rheinmetall and weapons giant Lockheed Martin are in talks to jointly design a new multiple missile launcher, inspired by the American HIMARS, which has received a lot of attention in Ukraine.
