The bones of a woman from Hamburg who had been missing for 33 years were found in Solingen. But there are still many open questions.
New hope for a Hamburg family: You can finally bury a relative and say goodbye. The woman had been missing without a trace for 33 years. A bone fragment of her was discovered in a garden in Solingen (North Rhine-Westphalia) on Tuesday. The police then subjected the fragment to a DNA analysis and found what they were looking for.
The garden is currently being investigated further, said a spokeswoman for the responsible public prosecutor’s office at the request of t-online. Further fragments were discovered, but they are still being evaluated.
The woman’s bones had already appeared in 2019, but could not be assigned at the time. New analysis methods have now made the hit possible. Relatives of the dead also made their DNA available for comparison.
More than the woman’s identity is yet to be confirmed. The cause of death is also still unclear. The police do not rule out third-party negligence, but a natural cause of death is also possible. How the remains of the woman got into the garden is not yet clear.
