Yoga, hoop dance or seated dance. The program of the Bildungswerk Bötzingen is diverse. The facility has now celebrated its 60th birthday with an open day – and has been given a new name.
The specials
The director of the Volksbildungswerk Bötzingen, which is also responsible for the communities of Eichstetten and Gottenheim, Christiane Geppert, had come up with a colorful program for the open day. Lectures on the praying mantis or the architecture of tiny houses were on offer, as were courses in yoga, hoop dance or seated dance through to story time, singing bowl meditation, positive psychology or child relaxation. There were courses for the very young, but also for older students. So a typical adult education cross-section, some offers such as hoop dance, mobility or seated dance are to be included in the regular offer in the coming semester, others were unique. Overall, however, all were free and without the need to register. Refreshments were also served in the primary school auditorium.
the resonance
Despite the best summer weather, including the open swimming pool on Saturday morning, some offers were really well received, others not so much. The dozen yoga friends went almost as one to the subsequent singing bowl workshop. According to course instructor Yvonne Müller, the twelve participants aged between eight and 69 also had a lot of fun with the hoop dance, rhythmic movements with the hula hoop. The lecture on the subject of balcony greening or the story hour with storyteller Dunja Scharnofske was also well filled. In other courses, such as Shiatsu for parents and children, the handful of visitors had the course leader almost exclusively. And offers for children in particular, such as children’s relaxation or eye training, were completely canceled due to a lack of participation. It was particularly unfortunate for Christiane Geppert, however, that no one wanted to take part in the double-hour theater workshop of the tongue-lash theater group, which arose from an acting course in 1983.
Ceremony and renaming
Several former course instructors and long-standing managers of the Volksbildungswerk (VBW) were able to welcome Bötzingen’s Mayor Dieter Spiral Burger and his counterpart in Gottenheim, Christian Riesterer, currently Chairman of the Kaiserstuhl-Tuniberg Municipal Administration Association and thus head of the sponsor of the educational institution, to the ceremony in the Bötzinger Festhalle. Among them Cornelia Jäger, director from 1992 to 2019, and the wife of the founder, Ursula Dörflinger, who was in charge of the administration of the Bildungswerk for many years. Riesterer later handed over the anniversary picture designed by Lina Höfflin entitled “Together we are colourful”, on which every participant of the festival could immortalize themselves with a fingerprint. Host Mayor Spiral Burger looked back on the beginnings of the VBW 60 years ago, especially slide presentations and sewing and cooking classes were very popular at the time. From 1988 the VBW was then transferred to municipal sponsorship.
The celebration of the institution’s birthday was framed by brisk performances by the Zumba group, before head Christiane Geppert emphasized that her institution, which was officially renamed the Kaiserstuhl-Tuniberg adult education center with the anniversary celebration, should continue to be a meeting place.
Friendships are made here, people can learn from each other and with each other. However, according to Christiane Geppert, it is also becoming increasingly important to be more flexible in order to continue offering courses that interest many people.
