Lightning Strikes Cause Concern in Eastern Norway: Meteorologists Offer Safety Tips

Lightning has been observed in several places in Eastern Norway during the evening, writes the Institute of Meterology Twitter Tuesday.

There have also been lightning strikes in several places in Trøndelag and in Helgeland in recent hours.

– It is probably now at its worst, before it gradually calms down later in the evening, says meteorologist on duty, Martin Granerød, to Dagbladet.

Will disappear

He points out that afternoon showers have been observed in some places, and that this often brings with it torrential rain and thunderstorms.

However, this will disappear during the evening and through the night.

Should not bathe

The meteorologist nevertheless has some advice for those who are outdoors when the weather is at its worst.

– If you are on the mountain and your hair stands up, you should lie down and seek cover. If you are near the sea, you shouldn’t swim either, points out Granerød.

He adds that the safest thing is to sit in the car.

– In most cases, luckily, it goes well, he says.
