Petr Švancara: A Controversial Figure in Czech Football

Petr Švancara is a well-known personality of Czech football. Words such as bohemian, showman or entertainer are often mentioned by his name. As a young striker, experts predicted a successful career for him, but he never fully fulfilled his potential. Although he confirmed his football genius at times, he filled the headlines with his own statements or his own behavior rather than his performances. Among his memorable sayings is the idea: “He who returns does not trust his goalkeeper”.

During his career, he replaced several Czech clubs, played for Slavia Prague, Opava or Slovácko, but most of the time he played for Zbrojovka Brno. In the 2006/2007 season, he also tried the Slovak top competition, wearing the jersey of Inter Bratislava. He didn’t live up to his reputation here either, he was even transferred to the B-team and only lasted half a year at Pasienky. He scored three times in fifteen starts.
