Fundraiser Held for Woman Who Suffered Severe Complications from Strep Throat
Howell, June 25, 2023 – A community in Howell came together on Sunday to support Danielle Amato, a 28-year-old woman who experienced multiple medical complications after what initially appeared to be a simple case of strep throat. The fundraiser, held at the Elks Lodge, aimed to raise funds for Danielle’s ongoing recovery.
In January, Danielle’s health took a turn for the worse when doctors discovered that her strep throat had developed into toxic shock syndrome, a rare and dangerous complication. The bacterial infection, known as Group A streptococcus, released toxins that severely damaged Danielle’s heart, kidneys, liver, and circulation.
“The toxins that were released is what damaged her heart, her kidneys, her liver, her circulation – it was all from toxins that the Group A virus released,” explained Danielle’s mother, Sally Amato.
As a result of the complications, Danielle has already undergone amputations on both of her feet, losing several toes, and her dominant hand has been amputated up to her forearm. While she remains hopeful that the rest of her left hand can be preserved, Danielle anticipates that the fingers on that side will require amputation. Despite the immense challenges she faces, Danielle’s spirit remains hopeful for the best possible outcome.
The community’s support for Danielle was evident at the fundraiser, where friends, family, and community members gathered to show their solidarity and contribute to her recovery. A GoFundMe page has also been set up to collect donations to aid in Danielle’s ongoing medical expenses and rehabilitation.

Strep throat, a common ailment, can sometimes lead to severe and life-threatening conditions, as seen in Danielle’s case.
As the community rallies behind Danielle, their support and generosity will undoubtedly play a crucial role in her journey towards recovery.
