Fire Breaks Out in Garage in Kvelde, No Injuries Reported
Kvelde, Norway – At 14.33, the police and fire brigade received a report of a fire in a garage located in Kvelde. The emergency services were immediately dispatched to the scene, and updates were provided by the police via Twitter.
According to the police, there was a car inside the garage, although further details will be provided once the emergency services arrive at the scene. Operations manager at Sør-Øst 110, Arild Reinhartsen, confirmed that the fire service was on the scene just before 3pm.
“The fire service is currently working on extinguishing the fire,” Reinhartsen stated. Concerns were raised about the risk of the fire spreading to nearby buildings. However, the operations manager assured that the risk was under control, with the main concern being a house located on the same plot of land as the garage.
The fire brigade from Larvik and Sandefjord provided assistance in the extinguishing efforts. Additionally, a certain risk of explosion was reported at the site, leading to the establishment of a safety margin of 150 meters.
Fortunately, the danger of explosion was later declared over by the police’s incident leader, Jon Terje Stäheli, at around 3.20pm. Consequently, the safety zone was discontinued, ensuring the safety of nearby residents.
At 15.21, the operations manager in the South-East police district, Øystein Eikedalen, reported that the fire was under control. It was clarified that the risk of explosion at the site was not due to its proximity to a petrol station, but rather to the presence of propane bottles on the plot.
Thankfully, there were no injuries reported in connection with the fire. However, the vintage car inside the garage was completely destroyed, according to the operations manager.
Among the witnesses of the incident were the Wiatr-Nowak family, who reside near the fire plot. They learned about the fire while they were in the center of Kvelde and rushed back to their home to retrieve their fire extinguisher. However, they were instructed by emergency services to prioritize their own safety.
Jon Terje Stäheli, the incident leader at the scene, expressed concern about the proximity of spectators to the fire. He emphasized that people were too close and did not consider their own safety.
At present, the police have no information regarding the cause of the fire. Investigations will be conducted to determine the origin of the incident.
