Škoda is gearing up for two major premieres this autumn, with the introduction of the second generation Kodiaq and the fourth version of the Superb model. Today, we will take a closer look at the Superb and its upcoming changes.
One significant change for the Superb is the relocation of its production from the Czech Kvasin plant to the Slovakian plant of the Volkswagen Group in Bratislava. The new generation of this middle-class representative will be produced alongside the technically related Volkswagen Passat. Interestingly, while the Passat will now be exclusively available as a station wagon, the Superb will continue to offer two body versions – a liftback and a station wagon.
In terms of engine options, the Superb will still feature combustion engines, including four-cylinder diesel and gasoline engines. However, Škoda has also revealed plans for mild-hybrid and plug-in hybrid variants.
Škoda first provided a glimpse of the fourth generation Superb model back in April, when it released images showcasing the silhouettes of the new Kodiaq and Superb models. These images, along with photos of camouflaged prototypes, served as inspiration for a graphic designer from the motoring website Bikes. The designer created their own interpretation of what the new Superb could look like, focusing on the evolution of its appearance and bringing its shape closer to the Octavia and Enyaq models. The new design features a new radiator grille and different front and rear lights, as well as a distinct side line.
In a few months, we will have the opportunity to see how closely the virtual artist’s vision aligns with the actual fourth generation Škoda Superb. It is worth noting that the current design was unveiled in February 2015, with a modernization update introduced four years later. To date, Škoda has sold over 777,000 units of the Superb model.
