VéNégy Festival and Theater Meeting Opens in Nagymaros

Nagymaros, June 22, 2023 – The 10th VéNégy Festival and Theater Meeting opened in Nagymaros on Thursday with a grand ceremony. The event, which celebrates the cultural cooperation of the Visegrád countries (V4 – Slovakia, Czech Republic, Poland, Hungary), promises a diverse program for all ages.

The Parliamentary State Secretary of the Ministry of the Interior, Bence Rétvári, emphasized the importance of cultural cooperation among the V4 countries. He stated that despite occasional differences, the V4 countries always find a common voice in culture, which is the basis of their stable cooperation.

Rétvári, who is also the main patron of the festival, expressed his satisfaction that the event has managed to thrive even in challenging circumstances. He highlighted that this year’s program is comparable to or even greater than previous years, featuring 220 artists from two other countries besides the V4 countries. The festival will include nine all-art productions, fifty music programs, theater shows, workshops, nature walks, water tours, family programs, and a puppet theater.

The festival director, Márk Kis Domonkos, expressed his honor to be part of the 10th International Theater Olympiad. He mentioned that the festival has created a strong community that allows for fantastic performances from Poland, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, and Hungary. Additionally, a street theater performance from the Voskresinnia Theater in Lviv, Ukraine, will also be showcased.

The cultural roots of the Visegrád countries have been intertwined for centuries, connecting these nations and enabling them to strengthen each other, according to Rétvári. He highlighted that the VéNégy Festival and Theater Meeting is the only festival in Hungary that invites the V4 countries to a common cultural stage.
