In a recent operation, the Department of Disease Control and the Office of the Consumer Protection Board (OCPB) arrested a big lot of electronic cigarettes in the Khok Kram area. The total value of the seized electronic cigarettes was estimated to be more than 3 million baht.

The Department of Disease Control, in collaboration with the Division of the Tobacco Products Control Board, conducted a visit to the Khok Kram Police Station area after receiving information about the smuggling of electronic cigarettes for sale. The authorities discovered a large quantity of e-cigarettes and e-liquid refills, which were being advertised and sold through online channels.

Dr. Chayanan, a representative from the Department of Disease Control, emphasized the toxic and harmful nature of e-cigarettes and urged young people not to believe in advertisements that claim e-cigarettes are a healthy alternative to smoking. He warned that e-cigarettes contain substances that can be detrimental to one’s health and can even be considered drugs.

The operation led to the arrest of an e-cigarette shop and the seizure of e-cigarettes and e-liquid refills worth more than 3 million baht. It was revealed that there were more than four large e-cigarette smuggling shops in the Khok Kram area, causing significant damage to public health.

Dr. Chayanan also highlighted the existing regulations in Thailand that prohibit the sale and import of e-cigarettes, as stated in the Consumer Protection Committee No. 9/2558. The committee’s regulations prohibit the sale or provision of services related to hookahs, e-cigarettes, and their liquid refills.

The Department of Disease Control and the OCPB urged the public to report any clues or information regarding the sale of electronic cigarettes, electric hookahs, or liquid refills to the Hotline Office of the Consumer Protection Board (OCPB) at 1166 during working days and hours.

This operation serves as a reminder that e-cigarettes pose serious health risks and are illegal in Thailand. The authorities are committed to cracking down on the sale and import of these harmful products to protect the well-being of the public, especially the youth.
