Masses Clash with Police at Al-Zaytun Islamic Boarding School in West Java

Jakarta – The Dharma Ayu Solidarity Forum demonstrators engaged in a heated argument with the police as they forcefully entered the gate of Al-Zaytun Islamic Boarding School in Indramayu Regency, West Java.

According to detikjabar, the pushing action was inevitable as the masses attempted to move towards the north gate of Al-Zaytun in Mekarjaya Village, Gantar District, Indramayu Regency. The incident was triggered by the masses’ anger over a controversial statement made by Al-Zaytun, which they deemed as blasphemous and not in line with Islamic teachings.

Amidst the pushing action, one of the demonstrators was arrested by the police. However, the masses continued to push forward, determined to demonstrate in front of the Al-Zaytun gate to express their grievances.

“What is clear is that everyone understands and knows that Al-Zaytun has committed blasphemy against the Islamic religion. This means that it is not in accordance with Islamic teachings,” said Hata, one of the demonstration participants, as quoted by detikJabar on Thursday (22/6/2023).

In their follow-up action, the masses demanded the immediate disbandment of the Islamic boarding school led by Panji Gumilang. They also called for a thorough investigation into the assets owned by the institution.

“What is clear is that we demand the disbandment and a comprehensive investigation into Al-Zaytun’s assets,” continued Hata.
