The second stage of the “Active Unemployment Insurance” program has begun, benefiting 2,400 people with a budget of 43 million 200 thousand pesos. The program, which is led by the Secretary of Labor and Employment Promotion (STYFE), José Luis Rodríguez Díaz de León, aims to provide support to individuals who are unemployed.
The beneficiaries of the program will receive a support of 18 thousand pesos for three months. The majority of the beneficiaries are women, which contributes to combating inequality, eradicating gender violence, and mitigating the economic impacts caused by the pandemic.
During the launch of the program, the Head of Government, Martí Batres Guadarrama, emphasized the importance of the social aspect of governance. He mentioned that his management will focus on five fundamental axes: Progressive and Rights City, service to the people, work, contact with citizens, and emphasis on the social.
The “Active Unemployment Insurance” Program has already benefited 11,904 people with economic support. The program also takes advantage of the productive capacity of those who register to help improve the environment.
In recent years, the economic resource for the program has tripled, from 1,800 to 6,000 pesos per month per beneficiary. This increase is part of the right to access work and a decent wage for the inhabitants of the capital.
Rodríguez Diaz de León highlighted that the increase in economic support is aimed at improving income for the beneficiaries. He mentioned that there are currently 11,904 people benefiting from the program, compared to the previous support of 1,800 pesos per month.
The process of salary dignification was promoted by President Andrés Manuel López Obrador with the Labor Reform. This reform has led to an increase in the minimum wage, which has risen five times above inflation. In real terms, there has been an increase of almost 100 percent compared to the stipulated amount in 2018.
The program has also had a positive impact on various areas of the city. Beneficiaries have been involved in guiding users of Line 1 of the Metro Collective Transportation System (STC) to use other transportation alternatives. They have also participated in the “Give a Hand to your Market” Program at the Xochimilco City Hall and in the intervention of ravines and areas of environmental value in several municipalities.
Furthermore, the “Active Unemployment Insurance” has benefited one million 150 thousand Housing Units in the capital. Beneficiaries living in these complexes have been involved in work such as sweeping, beaconing, and gardening.
