UPPER EAST SIDE, Manhattan – In a series of shocking incidents, three women were attacked and slashed in the subway system over the weekend. The suspect, described as a man with a white T-shirt and a blank stare, was apprehended and is currently under arrest.
All three victims survived slash wounds to their legs, with the attacks being described as unprovoked and carried out from behind. Charges against the suspect are expected to be announced at a press conference scheduled for Tuesday afternoon.
One of the victims, 19-year-old Bianchelli Diplan, recounted her terrifying experience. She was attacked while leaving the 4 train at 86th Street. Diplan stated, “I started up the steps and then I felt something in the back of my leg. So like, I hold on to it. And I saw there was blood. So I turned around, I saw him, and he just stared at me. I was crying, crying. And he just walked away.”
Police believe that the same man also slashed a 48-year-old woman at the 86th Street station before riding the train down to the Brooklyn Bridge Station, where he attacked a 26-year-old woman. None of the victims knew each other, and the attacker remained silent throughout the assaults.
Diplan, who survived the attack, is urging fellow subway riders to be vigilant and aware of their surroundings, as the suspect is still at large. She expressed her desire to see an increased police presence in the subway system, similar to the heightened security observed at 86th Street on Monday.
“Just to be safe, be aware of your surroundings. Because this could happen to anybody,” Diplan emphasized.
While subway crime has seen a 13% decrease last month, the recent violent weekend incidents have left riders concerned and on edge.
