For the first time in fifteen years, the city will expand the “Summer Streets” or “Open Streets in Summer” program.
This was announced yesterday by Mayor Adams and the Commissioner of the Department of Transportation, Ydanis Rodríguez.
The initiative will take place over five Saturdays between the end of July and the end of August.
New Yorkers will have at their disposal several streets of the city without vehicles, they will be able to play, walk and ride a bike among other activities.
“All communities, regardless of their economic, ethnic and social status deserve to use the streets, because the roads belong to all of us and should be used for recreational, educational and health activities that we deserve,” said the Commissioner of Transport.
The spaces will be cleared from seven in the morning to one in the afternoon on the following dates and streets:
On Saturday, July 29, the show will take place in Queens and Staten Island.
On Saturdays August 5, 12 and 19 in Manhattan.
And on Saturday August 26 in Brooklyn and the Bronx.
