The war between Boyko Borisov and Ivan Geshev provoked the memorable Bulgarians, who follow the political processes in the country, to remind the leader of GERB what he thought about the chief prosecutor some time ago.
Borisov’s participation with Tsvetanka Rizova on bTV, in which one of the topics is the election of Geshev as the head of the prosecutor’s office, was broadcast on the network.
What happened then? On October 24, 2019, the Supreme Judicial Council elected Ivan Stoimenov Geshev as the chief prosecutor. On November 7, 2019, President Rumen Radev by decree returned the proposal for the election of Geshev to the SJC on the grounds that there was no alternative candidacy and the election had already been decided. After a successful re-vote on his candidacy on November 14, 2019, it was resubmitted to the President for a decree. After a 12-day delay, on November 26 Radev issued a decree appointing Ivan Geshev as the Chief Prosecutor of Bulgaria.

It is a curious coincidence that Borisov’s interview with Rizova took place exactly on December 14, when the SJC voted again on Geshev’s candidacy.

There are some disaffected people who want them to become the chief prosecutor. It is my fault that as I made Maya an ombudsman, they wanted us to make Hristo Ivanov or X one of his people become the chief prosecutor. As of today, Maria Gabriel Borisov, through her former candidate for prime minister, demanded the removal of this same “best” Geshev. In recent weeks, the Attorney General has reiterated that he is fighting against a conspiracy against the state, set in motion by the “political mafia” who “cut off his head” through the SJC. The majority in the parliament, in turn, convinces that the goal is to reform the prosecutor’s office so that it is no longer used as a cudgel.
