A solidarity race this Sunday

A sports relay will be organized at the Elgeco Plus bypass, this Sunday, June 18, 2023. It will see the participation of scouts of all ages. This is a solidarity event against global warming, a project deployed by the Young Lutheran Scouts Menafify of Tanjombato as part of the celebration of their 20th anniversary.

The project focuses on raising young people’s awareness of the fight against global warming through the promotion of the practice of sport. This project also aims to protect and enhance the landscape around the newly built roads (Rocade). A reforestation of 4,000 feet of “Paulownia” plants along the road is therefore planned. In addition to being decorative, these plants produce plenty of oxygen.

Thus, one lap of the relay track this Sunday will be equivalent to planting a plant of Paulownia. The total number of laps completed represents the number of plants that the sponsors have pledged to donate.

The participants in this solidarity relay will be subdivided according to their age group. Four categories will therefore be in the running: that of 5 to 12 years old, adolescents from 13 to 15 years old, 16 to 19 years old in the third and finally the adult category.

The participation of young scouts (Lutherans, Catholics, FJKM, Kiady) was requested.

Each scout association will plant its quota of trees at the edge of the ring road on the scheduled date of November 25, 2023 depending on the laps covered. During the quarter following the reforestation, their monitoring will be compulsory until they are autonomous. Menafify managers and members will carry out periodic raids to monitor their progress. An evaluation will be carried out during the month of December 2023.

The Menafify Lutherans of Tanjombato set up this project to immortalize their 20th anniversary and above all, to meet the Sustainable Development Goals which joins the slogan of the scout movement “ create a better world ».

The fragrance of God
