Deceased Silvio Berlusconi buried this week. Legend AC Milan Dejan Savicevic willing to drive thousands of kilometers to release the former club president.
The Italian football public mourned after Berlusconi closed his eyes forever, Monday (12/6/2023) at the San Rafaelle Hospital. Berlusconi’s health declined after suffering from chronic myelomonositis leukemia.
Berlusconi’s departure left deep sorrow for many parties, especially Milan, which he owned from 1986 to 2017. It was in Berlusconi’s hands that Milan achieved its heyday with eight Serie A titles and five Champions League trophies.
Not only titles, many top players were also born by Milan during the Berlusconi era. One of them is a footballer from Montenegro (former Yugoslavia) Dejan Savicevic.
Savicevic strengthened Milan from 1992 to 1998. The man in the attacking midfielder position scored 44 goals in 134 matches and contributed three Scudetto titles, one Champions League title, two Italian Supers and one European Super Cup.
Naturally, Berlusconi’s departure made Savicevic willing to travel a very long distance just to attend the funeral of his former boss, Wednesday (14/6/2023) at 15.00 local time.
Berlusconi’s funeral was even carried out in a state manner given his status as a former prime minister.
“The president is like a second father to me. I will say goodbye for the last time. It’s really sad,” Savicevic was quoted as saying Football Italia.
“I spoke to Daniel Massaro that I will get on the plane at 11am, but he asked me to wait because this is an official state cemetery and there are some strict rules and security.
“He called me again, and said I could come. So I immediately drove from Podgorica to Milan by car. I’ll be at the Dome today. I can’t miss that.”
