Jakarta –
Regent of North Toraja (Torut), South Sulawesi (Sulsel) Yohanis Bassang refuses to withdraw his report to the police regarding threats made by a resident. He has no problem being reported back for defamation.
“It doesn’t matter if he reports back to me. If indeed my report is not proven, it might just be called defamation. But this process is still running at the police,” said Yohanis Bassang, reported detikSulselThursday (15/6/2023).
Yohanis reported one of his residents named Stave Raru (55) to the police because he was considered to have acted arbitrarily against him. He wanted to have a deterrent effect.
“I will not withdraw my report. It is true that he is my citizen, but he has acted arbitrarily. For example, if our child is stubborn and naughty, don’t we have a deterrent effect, that’s all,” he said.
Yohanis stated that he was very offended by Stave Raru’s behavior. Moreover, he said, Stave did this when he was wearing the regent’s official clothes and was seen by all ASN who were present at the morning assembly.
“Just imagine, he insulted me, bullied and threatened me in public, especially if this was a series of incidents. I am the Regent, I was wearing official clothes at the time, meaning I am a regional symbol, should I let him do something like that, of course not. Because he really is too late,” he said.
The alleged threat occurred in the yard of the Torut Regent’s office around 07.30 WITA, Tuesday (13/6). The threat occurred before the ASN rally was carried out. At that time, Yohanis admitted that he was standing in the office yard when the car driven by Stave Raru passed while holding out a fist. After that Steve got out of the car and asked him to duel.
