Former President Trump Arraigned on Charges of Putting National Security Secrets at Risk and Obstructing Investigators

Former U.S. President Donald Trump was arraigned on Tuesday on charges of putting national security secrets at risk and obstructing federal investigators. Trump was booked and fingerprinted before entering a not guilty plea through his lawyer at a federal court in Miami. The indictment charges Trump with 37 counts of violating federal law, including 31 counts of willfully retaining national defense information under the Espionage Act. Trump and his personal aide, Walt Nauta, were also charged with single counts of conspiracy to obstruct justice, withholding government documents, corruptly concealing records, scheming to conceal their efforts, and making false statements to investigators. Nauta was unable to enter a plea as he lacked local counsel. The restrictions on the defendants’, including Nauta’s and Trump’s, communication also extend to their lawyers. Trump has also been indicted in an unrelated case by the Manhattan district attorney, and faces a separate inquiry by a prosecutor in Fulton County, Ga.
