John de Mol was found right in a lawsuit against Jan Roos and Dennis Schouten on Wednesday. The Gossip Talkcreators must pay the media magnate compensation of 5,000 euros.
The legal costs of De Mol, more than 2,600 euros, are also deposited with Roos and Schouten. De Mol himself had demanded 27,500 euros from both presenters, but this amount was not considered appropriate by the judge.
The media magnate sued the men of Gossip Talk because they stated in a broadcast that he would have bribed witnesses in an assault case involving his son Johnny de Mol. The judge finds that the presenters have not sufficiently substantiated that claim and therefore acted unlawfully.
“Gossip Talk just shouts because that shouting generates money”
“The gentlemen claimed to have 100,000 percent evidence for their nonsensical claims, the court has reduced that to 0 percent,” responds Peter Plasman, who represents De Mol legally. “The gentlemen just shout something because that shouting brings in money.” Plasman says his client agrees with the judge’s considerations.
gossippresenter Roos no longer has confidence in the judiciary after the verdict, he says ANP. He doesn’t think he has Gossip Talk will ever win a case. Roos therefore does not yet know whether he and Schouten will take further steps.
De Mol previously demanded a rectification and an amount of 10,000 euros. That money had to be transferred to the Het Vergeten Kind foundation. He got the rectification, but not the money. De Mol then started proceedings on the merits.
Roos and Schouten previously lost a lawsuit against singer Famke Louise. The presentation duo then started a crowdfunding campaign to cover the costs of the lost cause.
