While most onshore wind turbines measure between 120 and 150 meters high in France, those of the future Saône-et-Loire wind farm will reach 247 meters. In a letter addressed to the municipalities of Marcigny and Saint-Micaud, which will host the park in just over two years, SAB Energies Renewables, the project leader, gave more details on this point.
This device will maximize wind capture, explains Nino Labail, the company’s project manager for SAB Renewable Energies. “We can now build taller wind turbines thanks to new materials that are increasingly light. It allows us to have a faster and much more stable wind in height because it is not disturbed by the relief, ”he summarizes.
Finalization of environmental studies
SAB Renewable Energies is in the process of finalizing the environmental studies prior to construction. “The results are rather positive for the moment, we have no very high or prohibitive environmental constraints”, explains Nino Labail. After this first step, SAB Energies will then have to submit its file to the prefecture of Saône-et-Loire, which will study the project. “The phase of investigation of the file lasts ten months maximum, after which we can begin the construction which can go from one year to fifteen months”, he specifies.
Strong local opposition
The municipalities concerned nevertheless continue to oppose the project even if, without the right of veto, they have no power to block the construction. To make their voices heard, a hundred inhabitants have nevertheless gathered around “the association safeguarding the environment Marigny Saint-Micaud and surrounding municipalities”. In a recent press release, they reiterated their opposition to the project, which they described as “deadly for [les] landscapes, the associated biodiversity, the few thousand local residents and what remains of vitality [du] territory “. The association has even created a website, “Living well in Charolais”, to promote the territory and oppose the installation of wind turbines.
For his part, Nino Labail regrets the lack of communication on the part of the municipalities. “We have always made ourselves available to meet them but we have never had any answers in this regard,” he explains. Tensions that should continue until the finalization of the project.
To note
Other large-scale wind turbine projects are being studied by other project leaders in Belgium, Aube and Deux-Sèvres.
