The artist describes her new exhibition as follows: “Every day can bring a visual surprise or revelation. There is also a completely ordinary landscape, and only when the season changes it becomes different and unique. In the memory, everything gets mixed together, but the image remains and I think – to paint or not to paint”.
Random scenes created in refined, muted colors – overgrown ponds, forest edges, flowing water surfaces, blooming meadows – created in the minds of the viewers an idea of the aesthetics of the modern landscape, where we focus on an untouched, natural landscape, intriguing at any time of the year. We get the feeling that we are going for a walk with the artist and looking at the world through her eyes. Dace Liela: “Paintings are made from memory. When painting in this way, only the most important things appear on the canvas. The non-essential disappears. The camera does not capture the color I see.”
Dace Liela is the only contemporary artist who was nominated for contemporary art in 2021 for her nature paintings.
