ABB Acquires Eve Systems: What Will Happen to Latvia’s Famous Smart Home Brand?

Eve is also a well-known manufacturer of smart home products in Latvia, which has so far been represented in our electronics stores with such products as smart radiator regulators, motion and temperature sensors and smart lighting products. Today, it is reported in the global media that this German company has been acquired by the industrial electronics giant ABB. This acquisition will directly complement ABB’s Building and Home Automation Solutions division.

The Eve brand began its life in 1999 and initially it was just one of the product categories of the company Elgato Systems, which is perhaps better remembered as a manufacturer of gaming products. The Elgato brand was sold by the Germans to Corsair in 2018 and the rest of the company continued as Eve Systems. At the time of the company’s sale, Eve Systems had approximately 50 employees.

ABB, on the other hand, is an international giant with more than 105,000 employees, which focuses more on offering efficient solutions to its industrial customers than on developing fancy products for “ordinary mortal” buyers. ABB expects the acquisition of Eve Systems to make it a leader in Matter and Thread smart home products. Of course, only time will tell if even a little bit of the charm of the former Eve products will remain after the company is swallowed up.
