The basketball players of ZZ Leiden have won their third title of the year and thus the ‘treble’. A Dutch club has never managed to do that before.

After the Dutch title and the national cup, Leiden defeated the Belgian Ostend 91-80 in the final of the BNXT League, a competition with the best Belgian and Dutch clubs.

Basketball players Leiden beat Ostend and conquer BNXT League for the second year in a row

On Sunday, the Leiden of coach Douglas Spradley lost the second game against the Belgian champion at home in a sweltering room, so that a third and decisive game was needed.

Last season, Leiden also won the BNXT League, beating Donar from Groningen in the final.

Ostend take the lead after the break

In Ostend, Leiden started strongly, leading halfway with 52-43, partly due to 22 points from Deion Hammond. Ostend covered shorter after the break, put the American in restraints and led 66-65.

The Belgians couldn’t keep up the intensive game and lost their heads, so the guests took advantage. Marijn Ververs also contributed significantly to the victory with 19 points.
