MQ-9 Reaper Drone lands at Ostrava Airport in Czech Republic – Historic Moment for Europe

An American unmanned aerial vehicle MQ-9 Reaper landed today at Ostrava’s Leoš Janáček Airport in Mošnov, Czech Republic.

About this, as he writes “European Truth”reports Czech Newspapers.

Michal Golubec, COO of Airport Ostrava, noted that this was the first landing of such an aircraft at a civilian airport in Europe during normal operation. The machine was controlled from Houston in the USA.

As a technical support, Reaper escorted the C-17 transport aircraft, which is one of the largest aircraft in the US Air Force. Both vehicles arrived from Caslav, where they are participating in joint NATO exercises.

Golubets said that this is a historic event. “Certainly, in the Czech Republic, and I believe that also in Europe, this is the first time that an unmanned aircraft of this size has landed at a civilian airport during, I would even say, normal traffic. Of course, there are certain measures, we had to cooperate with the air traffic control service and with the Civil Aviation Authority to establish procedures,” Golubets said.

According to him, the Reaper drone behaves almost like any standard aircraft, including in the way of communication. “However, the current legislation still does not allow the joint operation of unmanned and manned aircraft. So this is really pioneering work in this regard,” Golubets said.

Reaper spent less than an hour on the site in Moshnov. During this time, several charter flights departed from the airport.

Recall that in March, Russian Su-27s attacked a US MQ-9 Reaper reconnaissance drone over the Black Sea, as a result of which the drone had to be flooded.
