The feature film “The Sun Shines 24 Hours” was made by the director Juris Poškus for four years, part of it was shot in the North Pole – Yakutia with the help of an international filming team, which is chosen by the character Mārtiņš, portrayed by the actor Andras Keiš, as his destination in the film. The director himself calls the film an adventure comedy, largely inspired by traveler Harry Seal’s diary about a trip to the North Pole.
“Mārtiņš achieved the “Latvian dream” on his own – he seems to have everything he needs for a happy life – status in society, a high level of well-being, but celebrating his 40th anniversary, he wonders – is that really all? What next? He decides to sell own business and start “living”, but when Mārtiņas’ beautiful girlfriend sets an ultimatum, giving Mārtiņs a week to finally get married or divorce, he has a momentary thought – to start life anew. He successfully sells his business and persuades his friends to go on a joint adventure – a trip to The North Pole. Finding himself alone at the airport, he is faced with a choice: return to everyday life or embark on an adventure…,” the film’s creators announce.
“The director has managed to show the banal without caricatures, and I hope you will be able to see it,” writes critic RVarde on the KinoRaksti.lv portal. The film critic Kristīne Matīsa thinks similarly: “All this constellation of bright images, texts and relationships is enough reason to have a wonderful time in Jura Poškus’ new film, but there is something else. And that is why this film cannot be classified as a simple comedy,” she writes in the newspaper “Diena”, emphasizing the performance of the actors.
The film stars well-known Latvian actors – Andris Keišs, Kristīne Krūze-Hermane, Intars Rešetins, Baiba Broka, Jūlija Volkova and others, as well as internationally known Norwegian actors – Jepe Beks Laursen (Norwegian sci-fi series Beforeigners, Hollywood fantasy thriller ” Ansītis and Gretiņa: Witch Hunters”, TV series Last Kingdom) and Trod Halbo (Beforeigners, Norwegian crime drama “Caesar’s Hotel”).
The film was made in the studio “FA Films”, produced by Madara Melberga.
