NASA Saves the World from Potential ‘Internet Apocalypse’
Scientists warn of a possible solar storm that could knock out satellites and power lines on Earth.
Scientists have warned of a possible solar storm that could occur within the next 10 years and disable the world’s communications system. NASA has launched a spacecraft that should prevent this threat.
The US space agency NASA has come to the rescue of the world to avoid a potential internet access threat known as the internet apocalypse, a situation that could deprive people of internet access for months or years, rendering satellites and electrical cables unusable.
NASA recently launched a spacecraft as part of a project aimed at preventing a potential “Internet apocalypse” that could prevent people from using the Internet for several months. According to Mirror, the US space agency’s Parker Solar Probe (PSP) has successfully navigated the solar wind and reached a milestone.
Scientists have sent out a wake-up call about the potential consequences of an impending solar storm, sometimes referred to as an “Internet apocalypse”, that could occur within the next ten years. The spacecraft, launched in 2018, made an amazing journey that brought it very close to the surface of the sun, where the solar wind is generated.
The report states that the solar wind is a constant stream of charged particles emanating from the sun’s corona – its outermost atmosphere. The PSP continued to collect important data on the operation of the sun despite challenging conditions of extreme heat and radiation.
Study lead author Professor Stuart Bale of the University of California discussed the importance of understanding the solar wind. “Winds carry a lot of information from the sun to the Earth. Therefore, understanding the mechanism of the sun’s wind is important for practical reasons on Earth,” Bale said.
“This will affect our ability to understand how the sun releases energy and causes geomagnetic storms that pose a threat to our communications networks,” he added.
Satellites and electric lines can become useless as a result of this situation, depriving people of the opportunity to use the Internet for several months or even years.
Meanwhile, NASA has launched a new campaign that gives the public the opportunity to have their name engraved on a microchip that will fly aboard NASA’s Europa Clipper spacecraft in 2019. In October 2024, the Europa Clipper spacecraft is due to travel to Jupiter and its moon Europa.
