Eelde – King Willem-Alexander will visit Madrid and other areas in Spain on Tuesday and Wednesday. The Boeing 737 BBJ with registration PH-GOV (the Dutch government aircraft) therefore departs from Eelde airport to Madrid on Monday evening.
Normally, the government aircraft is at Schiphol. The plane then departs from the national airport for flights of the king or government officials. The king still regularly gets behind the controls of the government aircraft. But whether His Majesty will fly himself tonight is not known. The Government Information Service has announced that it will not comment on the king’s travel movements.
On Monday evening, the government aircraft (probably with Minister Rob Jetten on board) will fly from Schiphol to Eelde to pick up the king. Willem-Alexander will be at the performance on Monday afternoon and evening ‘East Side Story’ van ‘Theater On the Other Side’ in Camp Westerbork and Bovensmilde. This theater performance is about Moluccans who lived in the former camp Schattenberg in Westerbork for twenty years and then moved to Bovensmilde.
But before Monday evening 9.10 pm, another airport is scheduled to be the departure point of the government aircraft, namely Groningen Airport Eelde. A spokesperson for the airport cannot say much about Monday evening’s flight. We confirm that the king will not be visiting the airport tonight.
Such a visit would not be surprising, because Groningen Airport Eelde wants to focus heavily on sustainability in aviation in the coming years. At the beginning of this month, it presented another ‘world first’ with a generator for hydrogen-powered aircraft. Let the king’s visit to Madrid be about hydrogen projects in Spain and possible cooperation with the Netherlands.
If the FlightRadar data is correct, the government aircraft will land at Groningen Airport Eelde on Monday evening at 8.22 pm. An hour later, the king and minister Jetten depart from Eelde for Madrid.
