Free and Anonymous Vaccinations for Hepatitis B, HPV and Mpox in Zeeland – Information on Pink Saturday

Hepatitis B vaccination

Men, who have sex with men and for whom sex is their job, can have themselves vaccinated against hepatitis B free of charge and anonymously. The Sexual Health team of GGD Zeeland will be present at the information market on Bleekveld from 13:00 to 16:00.

Hepatitis B is a sexually transmitted disease that can seriously damage the liver and is highly contagious. The virus is transmitted through unprotected sexual contact and blood-to-blood contact. Condom use reduces the risk of hepatitis B, but does not provide complete protection. Only vaccination can completely prevent Hepatitis B. Men who have sex with men and for whom sex is their job run an extra risk of Hepatitis B, which is why they can get vaccinated for free and anonymously.

HPV vaccination

Young people born between 1996 and 2003 can be vaccinated free of charge and anonymously against the Human Papillomavirus (HPV). The HPV team of GGD Zeeland will be present at the information market on Bleekveld from 13:00 to 15:00. The HPV virus is highly contagious and is spread through intimate contact.

The HPV vaccination protects against six types of cancer: in the mouth and pharynx and on the penis, anus, vagina, labia and cervix. Only in 2023 will young adults (19 to 26 years old) be vaccinated against HPV free of charge at the GGD. For optimal protection, 2 injections are required with at least six months in between. Therefore, get your first shot before July 1. Because only then can you still get both injections in 2023.

Mpox vaccination

Cis and trans men and trans women who have sex with gay or bi men can get vaccinated against mpox (monkey pox) free of charge and anonymously. The Sexual Health team of GGD Zeeland will be present at the information market on Bleekveld from 13:00 to 16:00.

Mpox is transmitted through intimate contact, such as kissing, making love, and having sex with someone who is infected. The virus can penetrate through the mucous membranes and small wounds and cracks in the skin. The virus may also be able to spread through fluid from the blisters or droplets from the mouth or throat, although this risk is currently estimated to be low. Mpox is a virus infection. The infection is usually mild. The virus is contagious and can make you very ill.
