The study trip of the Catholic adult education of the deaneries of Biberach and Saulgau went to Franconia and Frankfurt this year. On Whit Monday, the trip to Creglingen led to the Marienretable by Tilmann Riemenschneider and the Stuppacher Madonna by Matthias Grünewald in Mergentheim. With the ship through a beautiful landscape to Veitshöchheim with a coffee break on board and a visit to the castle park, the hotel in the city center of Würzburg was occupied.
The second day was exclusively dedicated to the city of Würzburg. After a city tour through the city, a visit to the residence, the cathedral and the Neumünster collegiate church, the participants had enough time to visit the city center with the Marienkapelle, the Falcon House and the Old Main Bridge. A visit to Frankfurt am Main was a special experience. Guided tours through the Kaisersaal in the Römer (town hall) and the Paulskirche provided insights into the history and venue of the National Assembly in 1848/49 as the first representative body for all of Germany with the adoption of the Frankfurt Imperial Constitution. Many visitors saw the Imperial Cathedral of St. Bartholomew and the inner city for the first time. Another highlight was the tour through the old town of Bamberg with an impressive tour of the imperial cathedral of St. Peter and St. George. On the way back to Würzburg, the pilgrimage church Maria im Weingarten with the stolen Madonna in the rosary by Tilmann Riemenschneider in the 1960s was visited in Volkach.
On the way home to Biberach, a guide in Dinkelsbühl showed the beautiful old town with its imposing houses. During a visit to the Sieger Köder Museum and the Heilig Geist Kirche in Ellwangen, a guided tour explained a number of paintings and the stained glass windows of the priest and extraordinary artist Sieger Köder, who died in 2015.
The trip ended with a visit to the Ries Crater Museum in Nördlingen. The morning reflections and the varied program of the whole trip left lasting memories with the participants and they are looking forward to the new study trip next year.
