Undersecretary Giorgio Silli participated on behalf of the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Hon. Antonio Tajani, in the Ministerial Conference of the Global Coalition to defeat Daesh/ISIS, held in Riyadh.
In his speech, the Undersecretary highlighted the importance of keeping international attention high on the terrorist threat, confirming Italy’s commitment within the framework of the Coalition, in particular with the co-presidencies of the groups dedicated to the African continent and to contrasting the flows illegal finance. He then attended a high-level event on West Africa, co-chaired by US Secretary of State Blinken and Saudi Foreign Minister Faisal, in which he highlighted the Italian approach aimed at consolidating a solid partnership with African countries to ensure security and stability through an integrated policy that also addresses the root causes of radicalization and terrorism. On the sidelines of the Ministerial, the Undersecretary then held bilateral talks with the Foreign Ministers of Mauritania, Niger and Yemen.
Undersecretary Silli also met the Saudi Deputy Foreign Minister Al Sati, the Assistant Minister for Energy Ahmed Mousa Al Zahrani and the President of the Italian-Saudi Business Council with qualified representatives of the private and financial sector, discussing the prospects of the relationship bilateral.
