Bianca Salming he got a rocket start in his new career as a high jumper.
Before the TV cameras were turned on from Sollentuna’s GP, she jumped 1.88 and became Sweden’s number one in height this season.
– It feels like high jump is my discipline and now it’s a full effort to try to get to the WC, she says.
Bianca has decided to skip the all-around this summer and make a pure bet on the high jump.
Now it came loose when she slipped over 1.88 on a sunny Sollentunavallen, four centimeters from her personal best of 1.92.
Bianca took both 1.86 and 1.88 in the second attempts and raised her year’s best by four centimeters.
In doing so, she pushed down Ellen Ekholm, who took 1.85 this year, to second place in Sweden this year.
The reward?
A place in the team EC in Poland in midsummer.
“Now I continue on this track”
– That’s what was said in any case and it’s a competition that gives high ranking points. That’s what I’m chasing right now, to try to climb the world rankings and qualify for the WC that way.
She doesn’t believe in the qualifying limit of 1.97 – yet.
– But now I continue on this track and height has always been my branch and the one that made me start athletics. I feel that I have stood still in sprints for quite some time and my gut feeling said that I should focus on a different discipline than all-around.
– If I transform my body in terms of muscles, I am a high jumper. It may take time, but I feel ready to take the plunge.
It was also the first competition at Sollentunavallen where father Börje was not in the stands.
Reacting to the question about Börje
Bianca was already asked inside if she missed him in the audience.
– That was a bit of a stupid question. Of course it doesn’t feel good that he’s not here, but I got a lot of love from others who are close to me and were here.
Yes, mother Kristina was in the audience, as was boyfriend and hockey player Tobias Lindberg.
– Yes, his whole family was here. It was fun that everyone came and checked. I jump at my best under pressure.
Soon it will also be time for a completely different debut.
As a summer speaker on the radio.
– Yes, it will be fun. I didn’t think it was that big, but now I understand how glorious it is. I’m all set and it will be a lot about my love for athletics and what it has taught me. I want to share it with you
