Another thrilling duel with Tahiyra has Saeed bin Suroor counting down the days until Royal Ascot with Mawj.
The pair were involved in one of the best races of the flat season so far when they dueled at the 1000 Guineas at Newmarket.
Mawj emerged victorious on that occasion but Tahiyra has since won the Irish equivalent and bookmakers make her the favorite to turn the tables at the Coronation Stakes on 23 June.
“She grew a bit when she was in Dubai,” said Bin Suroor of his little filly. “What I do with two-year-olds when I see they’re small and skinny is give them time between races and that helps them.”
“She didn’t really grow up, but at least she has a big heart.
“We ran her seven furlongs in Dubai and then she won well over a mile. When she came back to England she won a classic. She is a very special filly and we look forward to Ascot.”
Looking ahead to the rematch, he continued, “Dermot Weld’s mare is very good, she was second in English Guinea and won in Ireland, she’s very tough.”
“Our mare should walk well, we are satisfied with her and look forward to it.”
“I think a mile is perfect for her. Maybe we’ll look at something else in the future, but for now, a mile is fine. One day we could look at nine furlongs.”
“For them there are many a mile races, the Falmouth, the Sun Chariot, races like this. We’ll see, but I think a mile suits her just fine. I don’t think we would ever wait to be back on the journey with her.
