Palmeiras beat São Paulo 2-0 this Sunday, at Morumbi, for the 10th round of the Brazilian Championship. The goals were scored by Gabriel Menino and Endrick in two failures by Arboleda.
The classic featured Arboleda, in one of the defender’s worst performances for São Paulo. The Ecuadorian missed two ball outings, one in each half, and offered the goals to Gabriel Menino and Endrick. In the final minutes, the tricolor crowd shouted the defender’s name.
The game was balanced in the first half, but São Paulo created the main chances of the final stage until Endrick expanded. Palmeiras held on with good defenses from Weverton and the help of Arboleda’s heading crossbar.
The classic was very nervous on and off the field. In the first half, coach Abel Ferreira was at odds with striker Calleri and took yet another yellow card.
Palmeiras is in second place, with 22 points, and two behind Botafogo. São Paulo remains in eighth placewith 15. The 10th round kept the Paulistas in the same place in the table.
The teams will now have rest because of the Fifa date. São Paulo will return to the field to face Athletico, on the 21st, again at Morumbi. On the same day, Palmeiras will visit Bahia in Fonte Nova.
How was the game
São Paulo started better at Morumbi, but had two showers of cold water in 10 minutes: an unmarked penalty and Palmeiras’ goal to open the scoring.
At two minutes, Luciano kicked hard and the ball hit Mayke’s arm. Raphael Claus gave the penalty with conviction, but went to the video, saw that the right-back touched his head first and was corrected by VAR.
In the 10th minute, the lethal Palmeiras took advantage of a triple error by São Paulo: Alisson touched the fire to Arboleda, who had an even worse time. Gabriel Menino left Gabi Neves on the ground in a dry cut and kicked from outside the area in Rafael’s angle. 1 to 0.
Soon after, at 14, a mess. Coach Abel Ferreira didn’t like Calleri coming in from behind on Mayke and went over to the São Paulo striker, getting face to face. The coach got a yellow card.
With the disadvantage, São Paulo launched the attack, but did not have enough space to scare Weverton. The exception was a shot by Luciano from afar that was well defended by the Palmeiras goalkeeper.
In the second half, São Paulo came back better and gave more work to the good Palmeiras defense. Calleri and Luciano startled in the first few minutes, but it was Arboleda, at 14, who came closest. The defender headed the crossbar after a corner taken by Michel Araújo.
Palmeiras’ defensive system felt the absence of Naves, who had a muscle problem. Jailson midfielder was improvised in the role, and the need made São Paulo create opportunities more easily. Even so, Verdão held on and even expanded the scoreboard.
In the 32nd minute of the second half, Arboleda made another mistake on the way out of the game and served Endrick, who swelled Rafael’s net. 2 to 0 and alviverde victory confirmed.
Important spears
Yes, juizão. After just two minutes, Luciano finished and Mayke touched his head before the ball hit his arm. Raphael Claus gave a penalty, but it was corrected by VAR.
1 a 0. At 10 minutes, Gabriel Menino scored a great goal. He took advantage of the wrong pass from Arboleda, dribbled past Gabi Neves and hit Rafael from outside the area.
On the grass. In the 14th minute of the second half, Michel Araújo took a corner kick and Arboleda headed it over the crossbar. Goalkeeper Weverton just cheered.
2 a 0. In the 32nd minute of the second half, Arboleda got involved and gave an “assist” to Endrick. The palmeirense jewel swelled Rafael’s nets and increased the scoreboard.
