Everyone has experienced stress at some point, but researchers have now found out which period in your life you are most susceptible to. Spoiler alert: they are exactly the years that everyone thinks should be ‘the most beautiful years of your life’.

Your twenties are the years when you are fully discovering yourself, spreading your wings and having the best time of your life. That is the intention, but it is not always easy. Whether it concerns a new study, your first ‘real’ job, forming or breaking friendships, moving or a quarterlife crisis: It’s been a turbulent decade. In fact, it causes so much stress that research shows that this period will most likely be the most stressful period of your life.

The only way is up

The study by the American Psychological Association involved people between the ages of 20 and 70. The peak of stressful events is between the ages of 20 and 30, but fortunately there is also good news: Your stress drops on average by 11% between the ages of 20 and 70. Younger participants experienced an even steeper drop (47%), meaning things start to get better after the age of 30.
