That result beat Jorge Martin’s top speed record in 2022. The Spaniard reached a speed of 363.6 km/h thanks to slipstream on the second lap of the Italian Grand Prix.
What are the specifications of the RC16 motorbike driven by Brad Binder?
The KTM RC16 that Brad Binder rides on is equipped with a 1,000cc four-cylinder engine with a V-shaped engine configuration. On paper, the machine can reach more than 265 horsepower. Speed can be more than 340 km/hour. It was proven during the Sprint Race, the motorbike was able to accelerate 366.1 km/hour.
On paper, the engine is capable of screaming up to 18,500 rpm. The 1,000 cc V4 engine is mated to a transmission seamless shift.
KTM RC16 has a fuel tank with a capacity of 22 liters to devour rounds. While the exhaust system from the combustion engine is supported by an Akrapovic exhaust, the difference is that the 2023 season’s exhaust is larger and elongated than the 2022 version.
In addition, the KTM RC16 now also uses a larger front winglet. Meanwhile, the back was observed to have used a tail with a radical aerodynamic device, even similar to a chair – a seat supported by three legs.
For stability, the KTM RC16 is supported by a steel chassis, carbon fiber swingarm and front-rear suspension supplied by WP Suspension. The weight of this motorbike is only 157 kg. From the braking sector, the KTM RC16 uses Brembo brakes with aluminum calipers and carbon discs. The 17-inch forged magnesium wheels are covered with Michelin tires, which are the main tire suppliers in the MotoGP class.
“My bike is a rocket,” said Brad Binder after breaking a new record.
Dani Pedrosa, Mika Kallio and Jonas Folger partnered with KTM as test riders. Pedrosa and Kallio’s touch on KTM motorbikes has more or less had an impact. Plus the move of Jack Miller from Ducati to KTM is said to have helped the development of the RC16.
“He (Jack Miller) gave us a point of view that we don’t have on our bikes; the perspective of someone who is not used to KTM. That is very good for us,” said KTM Team Manager, Francesco Guidotti.
“When we signed him, we were very clear with him: we told him we needed his help to give us feedback on the bike, and to push us to take another step forward in his development.”
Apart from Jack Miller, KTM hijacked several important Ducati figures, namely Alberto Giribuola (former Crew Chief of Enea Bastianini at Gresini Racing) and Christian Pupulin (Crew chief of Jack Miller at Ducati Corse).
Previously, since the start of the 2022 season, KTM also engaged Ducati Technical Director, Fabiano Sterlacchini and Pramac Racing Team Manager, Francesco Guidotti. Both are former Ducati confidants.
