Berlin-born Sisters Satou and Nyara Sabally to Face Each Other in WNBA for First Time

The two Berliners Satou Sabally and Nyara Sabally are looking forward to their first sister duel in the women’s professional basketball league WNBA. “It will mean a lot. I don’t know when I was last on the court with Satou. I think it was a school tournament,” said Nyara Sabally two days before her New York Liberty home game on Sunday (7 p.m CEST) against the Dallas Wings with her older sister. “I think we make a lot of people proud at home and inspire a lot of girls basketball to play,” said 25-year-old Satou Sabally.

Both basketball players were at college in Eugene, Oregon, but never played together due to injuries and the corona pandemic. Nyara Sabally said her sister, who is two years older than her, has already announced that she will defend her at every opportunity. “It’s just cool, we’re both excited,” she said. Surprised that there is a duel in the WNBA, neither of them are. “It was more of a question of when it would happen, not if. I have a lot of faith in both of our abilities,” Nyara told Sabally. Satou Sabally is in her fourth WNBA season and has been outstanding for the Dallas Wings. With an average of 22.4 points per game, she is in third place in the league. Nyara Sabally is in her debut season and has 5.3 points per encounter.
