The chocolate boat began to be created already in April and was ceremonially launched last week. More than 40 people worked on it, including confectioners and chocolatiers, as well as people from the Albaola company, which builds various vessels.
To build the ship, its creators used approximately 1,500 kilograms of chocolate with an expired expiration date. In total, however, the rowboat weighs around 1,700 kilograms, as the keel, upper parts and bench are made of wood.
Before launching into the sea, there were certain concerns about whether the boat would sink and how it would cope with salt water, but after about half an hour of testing, officials declared it seaworthy. But all the time, two standard wooden boats were also moving near her just to be sure.
According to the website Mirror is a chocolate boat replica of an old whaling ship that was built by local shipyards as early as the 16th century. This vessel sank off Canadian shores, but it’s safe to assume that the chocolate version will never make it that far.
