Trooping the Color 2022: Soldiers Overcome Heat and Fainting Spells in London Ceremony

In a sunny and warm London, hundreds of soldiers took part in the ceremony. The combination of the warm weather, the long standing and the heavy bearskin made some of them faint. Prince William seemed to endure the heat effortlessly. He also participated in the parade, as an honorary colonel.

The real parade will take place next Saturday. The birthday of the new King Charles will be celebrated for the first time this year. In 2022, Trooping the Color was still part of the festivities of Queen Elizabeth’s 70th reign.

During Trooping the Color, one of the so-called Household regiments – Grenadier, Coldstream, Scots, Irish and Welsh Guards – traditionally shows its colors to the monarch. This year the honor goes to the Welsh Guards, of which the king was an honorary colonel for more than fifty years. In December he handed over the baton to his son William. He has been the new Prince of Wales since Elizabeth’s death.
