NasDem Party Accuses Democratic Party of Forcing AHY to Become Anies’ VP Candidate, Denial Follows

General Treasurer (Bendum) NasDem Party Ahmad Sahroni said Democratic Party (PD) forced PD Ketum Agus Harimurti Yudhyono (ME) to become vice presidential candidate Anies Baswedan. Anies Baswedan’s spokesperson, Sudirman Said, denied the NasDem party who said the Democrats forced AHY to become Anies’ vice presidential candidate.

“So far the atmosphere in Team 8 meetings, which are official representatives of parties and presidential candidates, has always been conducive, mutual support and mutual trust. There is no atmosphere of imposing will, including in discussing options for Pak Anies’ potential partner,” said Sudirman Said in his statement, Saturday (10/6/2023).

The Team 8 member emphasized that so far all members of the Change Coalition have always used the cooperation charter as a guideline. The three-party cooperation charter dated 14 February 2023 stated, among other things, that Anies Baswedan was given the mandate to choose and appoint a vice presidential candidate as a companion in the 2024 election, the pair selection process is nearing the final.

“The parties have agreed from the start to give a mandate to the presidential candidate of their choice. Because of that there is no way anyone can force it to have a certain name, or a priori reject a certain name. We are grateful, this agreement is a way out that can avoid deadlock,” he said.

Regarding the views of several party cadres within the internal Coalition for Change who had different views, the former Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources did not make a big deal out of it. Sudirman Said considered that this was part of expressing his opinion.

“It’s good, democracy provides space for different views. This is a process of testing the maturity and maturity of all parties. God willing, no matter how sharp the differences, everything will be finished when the leader has made a decision,” he said.

Sudirman also expressed his appreciation for the enthusiasm of all parties who have built the dynamics of the coalition to become stronger. Sudirman explained the need for dynamics within the Change Coalition.

“Proposing each other, contributing views and alternatives is very good in an organization. It’s like building a house, it takes a variety of building materials and expertise to make one house. Regarding whether it is true that the Democratic Party forced AHY to become Anies’ vice presidential candidate, Sudirman stressed that no party had forced their will in the Coalition for Change.

“None of the parties forced it. All had the opportunity to propose names. The Nasdem Party proposed several names, PKS proposed several figures, both cadres and non-cadres. Likewise, the Democratic Party put forward a number of figures, both internal and external to the party. finished.
