British Columbia Wildfire Update: Chehalis River Fire Stopped Growing, Francis Lake Fire Under Control

According to the BC Wildfire Service, the local wildfire situation remains largely unchanged through Friday as the area is battered by hopes of rain.

The Chehalis River wildfire – a notable wildfire covering 800 hectares – has stopped growing, according to the latest information from the BC Wildfire Service. The fire has entered its sixth day after being spotted east of the Chehalis River and across the lake from Sasquatch Provincial Park on Saturday night. The forest fire was found to be man-made.

The smaller Statlu Creek wildfire has grown slightly from 73 to 80 hectares and is burning west of the Chehalis River. The wildlife population is currently classified as out of control. The cause is being investigated.

The Francis Lake wildfire — across the lake from Echo Island — remains under control and has burned less than an acre.

There were 82 active wildfires in the province as of Friday afternoon.

Due to smoke from wildfires across the province, the mountains around Agassiz are completely obscured on Friday afternoon. However, air quality is expected to continue to improve through the weekend, falling back to 1 (least risk) by Saturday evening.
