Let’s go for a month and a half of planting campaign of high-performance cashew trees. By mid-July 2023 at the latest, the operation will be closed. And the top of the operation given from the department of Atacora is not fortuitous. “While it is true that the Territorial Agricultural Development Agency (ATDA) of pole 3, Atacora West, is one of the small contributing poles, it is even more true that Atacora West must be reclassified because of the extension known in recent years. Cashew nut production increased from 1,320 tonnes in 2019 to 7,060 tonnes in 2022,” said Ricicatou SALE, Director of ATDA pole 3, justifying the choice of Atacora to host the official launch of the said campaign. She explained this dazzling increase, on the one hand by the improvement in the production of the plantations induced by the rehabilitation and the upgrading to standards carried out since 2019, and on the other hand, by the numerous supports through the strengthening of the capacities of the nurseries and planters in various fields, subsidizing production and setting up seedlings.
On behalf of the Minister, the Departmental Director of Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries of Atacora stressed that the objective of the present campaign is to provide cashew producers with 1,102,000 high-performance plants. of cashew for the installation of approximately 13,604 hectares of new plantations. 
Mr. Elias BIAOU, however, regretted the high mortality rate recorded at the level of the first plantations installed. However, the representative of the Minister in charge of Agriculture announced that a new survival mechanism for plants is proposed. This is, he said, the redefinition of the schedule for the installation of new plantations, the improvement of the subsidy provided to producers for the installation of new plantations and the strengthening of the monitoring-support system. – advice to producers through the involvement of 128 leading producers and 61 agricultural advisers recruited and distributed in the municipalities so that each beneficiary is followed up at least once a quarter.
