Experience a Colorful Night: Dresden Museum Night 2023

On Saturday, July 8, 2023, 43 museums invite you to the DRESDEN MUSEUM NIGHT. Museums throughout the city open their doors to a special program from 6 p.m. to midnight. From Tuesday, June 27th, the campaign motif of the Museum Night can be seen for 14 days on the 60 new digital city information systems in the city center – with a wink.
Advance tickets are again available for all museums and for a nocturnal journey from place to place: by bus and train, with the Museum on Wheels and a historic bus. In the participating museums, the directors present their favorite objects in person. Otherwise closed rooms are opened exclusively and experiments are presented. Those who wish can become active themselves by painting, spraying, printing and designing, observing and photographing or in workshops. An evening is offered around the big themes such as freedom, future and change, beauty and happiness: with music and film and plenty of opportunity to expand your senses – or to relax.
And all in color! The porcelain collection is all about white gold. Pillnitz is green and colorful in plant fever and the botanical garden also provides the color and smell as well as the sound. The Old Masters Picture Gallery promises a rush of color and music and is dedicated to pastel perfection with an exhibition on the painter Rosalba Carriera. The Japanese Palais is all about the blue planet, green herbs and a colorful swap of clothes. The technical collections lead into the black and white world of the 1920s and at the same time convey a new way of seeing on the screen with the “Ballet Mécanique”, a classic of surrealist film. This time there is a lot of color in the vicinity of the Technical University of Dresden (TU). In addition to the Munich Square memorial and the gallery of the Technical University in the Görgesbau, this time the permanent exhibition of the Custody is also inviting – including the color collection. Opposite, the book museum opens and, in addition to the famous Mayan codex, presents an exhibition with audio documents and moving images from everyday life in Saxony in black and white and color, from the 1920s to the 1990s. A historic bus takes guests from Pirnaischer Platz directly to the TU museums. If you are even more interested in historical vehicles, you can also drive with the rolling museum. It shuttles between the Transport Museum and the Transparent Factory, which is a guest at the DRESDEN MUSEUM NIGHT. Other guests include the Schönfeld Magic Castle and the Freital Municipal Collections at Burgk Castle. Almost all museums have exceptional offers for families and children: In the German Hygiene Museum you can make a NO Horn, take photos in the Technical Collections and build your own city out of cardboard and paper in the Transport Museum. In the Japanese Palace, a children’s radio play is produced with the young guests, and there are special tours for children in the Mitte power plant.
