The Importance of Sustainability and Green Energy Solutions: A Look at ENGIE’s Ampere Verde

We live in the years in which the concept of sustainability. There are ESG scores. I often open products that have packaging made from recycled cardboard and no longer contain plastic films inside. They’re not as good looking anymore, but I prefer them that way, they’re just wrappers.

We started recycling at home in 2019. We separate bottles, plastics, metals and cardboard and periodically take them in big bags to the recycling containers around the neighborhood. In 2019, when we started doing this, those containers were always empty or used for any type of garbage. Now I find them always full and correctly separated. They’ve tripled their number and they’re still often full of eyes, so I go to a second or even third point to get rid of mine.

You know those packages full of bubble wrap? I recently received two large parcels and in both the fragile items inside were protected by recycled cardboard. It was a pleasant surprise. On another online clothing store there is a large sustainability filter, which includes clothes made from recycled materials, materials from organic crops or produced to certain social standards. For some customers, this aspect is important, otherwise there would be no such option.

Things are slowly changing. In fact people change, that such products or services appear as a reaction to the increased demand in the market. Maybe some people are changed by children, that you look at them as small and cute and want them to have the best possible world when they grow up. Or, to put it more briefly, you want to feel that you personally have done everything you could to pollute less.

It seems to me that this is what it all boils down to: I feel good doing it this way, even if it sometimes costs a few extra lei or requires extra effort. There would be many other polluters in the world, but first of all I can control my choices. I can only directly control how I live and approach these things, and Matilda is even more driven in this direction than I am.

Here is another good example of a sustainable product. ENGIE launched in 2022 an electricity product called Ampere Verde which provides electricity obtained only from renewable sources. Ampero Verde actually has two important features:

• energy is produced 100% from renewable sources. It is obtained from photovoltaic panels, wind and hydroelectric plants.
• energy is produced in Romania.

It’s a very good combination. Household customers consume green energy. In Romania, there is less pollution and, as the demand for such energy increases, the development of renewable solutions in even greater numbers is encouraged, which are the future anyway because the sun, wind and water will never run out.

But the following aspect is more important: momentarily Ampero Verde costs nothing more than a conventional energy product. According to GEO no. 27/2022, energy prices are capped until March 31, 2025 at a maximum rate between 0.68 lei and 1.3 lei per kWh, depending on monthly consumption and other aspects (number of dependent children, etc.).

In other words, green energy for which you will not pay more than 1.3 kWh in the next period. And when they remove the ceiling… the market is liberalized. You can continue with this Ampero Verde product or choose another type of electricity subscription. By law, you will be notified in advance of any changes in legislation or tariffs.

ENGIE has various other solutions for reducing the carbon footprint and increasing energy independence. The company can help you with solutions for mounting photovoltaic panels on the house, with heat pumps or with electric vehicle charging stations.

Most people just want to turn on the light bulbs and the TV in the house, and only a few care about where the energy comes from. There is nothing wrong with that, nor was it something to think about until now, when these renewable solutions are in full development.
